Community Partnership Project

Alf Engen Ski Museum
2002 Utah Olympic Park

May 21, 2024
Park City, UT

  • As the Vice Chair of the Emerging Conservation Professionals Network, I organized a Community Partnership Project (CPP) in collaboration with the Textile Specialty Group. The CPP took place at the Alf Engen Ski Museum at the 2002 Utah Olympic Park on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The project helped to condition assess, label, and re-house ski suits and accessories in the Barbara Alley Simon Collection which showcases the evolution of ski fashion, as well as developments in ski apparel technology, from 1968-1998. The Barbara Alley Simon Collection is truly a one-of-a-kind collection and is a cornerstone of the Alf Engen Ski Museum’s collections. I wrote a summary of the CPP for the Lead Article in the July 2024 issue of AIC News and presented the project, along with co-author Reilly Jensen, at the AIC Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN in May 2025.

Identified sample materials and artworks that guests were allowed to touch. Sensory visits were offered once a month, ranging from 5-10 students plus aids/teachers. The sensory visits were scheduled when the museum was closed, giving the students full range of access of the gallery spaces and an opportunity to engage with art objects directly while learning about art care and conservation.
